Diamondhead
Diamondhead was established in the 1970s as a planned community to appeal to an older demographic seeking a place to retire. In February 2012, it was chartered as Mississippi's 111th city. Over time, it has become a town with a wide range of age groups. Much of life is centered around Diamondhead's marina, yacht club, tennis club, country club, and golf course. Named after Diamond Head in Hawaii, the area reflects Hawaiian influence throughout. Most of the roads are named with Hawaiian names, and the various community centers and private homes have a Hawaiian look.
Since most of Diamondhead was a planned community, it has many facilities designed to attract home buyers. Some of these facilities include community pools and parks, a community center, an adult learning center, a grocery store, a hardware store, restaurants, bowling, a private airstrip, and multiple ponds and lakes.
